Flathead Valley ski racers have full weekend of competition

Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation racers competed at Discovery Ski Area and Bridger Bowl last weekend. The U14/U16 team was in Discovery for three giant slalom races. It was the final race series for these athletes to qualify for the Western Regional Championships. Our development team was in Bridger for a giant slalom and a Kombi event, which combines elements from giant slalom and slalom. 

FVSEF had several athletes finish on the podium or have their season best results in Discovery. In the U14 girls, Finlee Klocke came away with two third place finishes and Claire Graham had a second- and a third-place finish. Kessa Drendel had some impressive results with three top 10 finishes. In the U14 boys races, Colter Bengtson started with two second place results and ended the series with a win in the third giant slalom. Nolan Shaw had his best result of the season with fifth place in one of the races. In the U16 age group, Sydney McPhie was solid, taking fourth, fifth and sixth in the three races. Leo Bungener also had a fourth place and two sixth place results on the boys side. The Northern Division teams for the Western Regional and Tri-Divisional Championship will be announced later this week. 

In Bridger Bowl, Edmund Dickson had a break-through weekend with a fifth place finish in the U12 boys giant slalom and a fourth place finish in the Kombi event. River Schmidt was second for U10 boys in both events, and U10 Henryk Hadidi was third in the giant slalom and fifth in the Kombi. First year racer Evelyn Barnett had a great weekend winning the girls U14 giant slalom and finishing second in the Kombi.
