Water and wildlife warriors to speak at Citizens for a Better Flathead party

| June 4, 2025 1:00 AM

Citizens for a Better Flathead will be celebrating 33 years of service to the community and hosting its annual Great Place Raffle Party and Water Celebration on June 13 from 6- 8:30 p.m. at Flathead Valley Community College, in the Arts and Technology Building, downstairs room 139.

There will be a catered dinner by the House of S & M for $50 per plate, a no-host bar provided by Spinnaker Casino Bar & Grill, door prizes, time to visit with friends, and an opportunity to hear about the organization’s work.

Special guests Richard Hauer, Doug Chadwick and Bruce Young will share their insights on conservation and connection to nature.

Hauer is a world renown river ecologist, professor emeritus and distinguished professor at Flathead Lake Biological Station where he taught and researched for over 35 years and held the Stream and River Ecology Endowed Chair. His research has extended from Alaska to Patagonia, but the Flathead has been his “true home” since 1976.

Young, known by many as Mr. Flathead Lake, is a fourth-generation resident of Flathead Lake and the Flathead Valley. He served as president of the Flathead Lake Protection Association and has also served and been an advisory board member of the Flathead Lake Biological Station for 45 years.

Chadwick is a renowned wildlife biologist, author and photographer. For over four decades, he has studied and advocated for wildlife conservation globally, contributing to National Geographic and authoring books like “The Wolverine Way” and “Four Fifths a Grizzly.”

A live performance by the Ashé Drum Group will bring powerful beats to the celebration.

The event is open to the public to celebrate Citizens for a Better Flathead’s 33rd year along with the wonderful community support that makes their work possible.

Raffle tickets will be available for sale at the start of the evening as well as online. Go to https://www.flatheadcitizens.org/ to see the list of 20 great prizes and to purchase raffle tickets before the event. Tickets are $25 each or five for $100.
