Bulldogs surge on home track at ARM Invite
It was a busy week for Class A track teams at the Top Ten Invite in Missoula on April 22 and at the Whitefish-hosted ARM Invitational on April 26.
At the ARM Invite, the Whitefish boys took the title, scoring 101 points, with Columbia Falls second at 88 and Loyola next at 72. The Bigfork Vikings were fourth at 67. For the girls ARM Invite,Columbia Falls scored 98 points to 86 for Class B Missoula Loyola and 84 for the Whitefish girls. Polson was a close fourth, scoring 79 points.
Whitefish senior Simon Douglas delivered another stellar week on the oval. At the prestigious Top Ten Invite, Douglas surged to victory in the 800 meters with a blazing time of 1:54.44, cementing his status as one of Montana’s premier mid-distance runners. He followed that up at the ARM Invite with a double win, clocking 4:21.88 in the 1600 and setting a personal record in the 3200 meters at 10:04.05. His leadership continues to be a pillar of the Bulldogs’ deep track program, and he now leads Class A in the 1600.
Sprinter Rachael Wilmot led the Whitefish girls’ charge, placing second in both the 100 (12.52) and 200 (25.41) at the Top Ten Invite before winning the 100 (12.66) and 400 (58.38) on her home track at the ARM Invite. Wilmot, a senior, has proven consistent across all short sprint events.
Teammate Ginger Bergland, a rising freshman, impressed with a win in the 300-meter hurdles at the Top Ten (46.27) and followed that with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and another top-three finish in the 100 at the ARM Invite.
In the boys sprints, Colby Minton, a Whitefish sophomore, was a highlight, taking third in the 400 at the Top Ten (51.15 PR), then storming to victory in the 200 (22.90 PR) at the ARM Invite. Senior teammate Riley Zetooney placed third in both the 100 and 200 in Whitefish, both personal bests.
WHITEFISH'S relay dominance was evident at the ARM Invite, with the Bulldogs winning both the boys’ and girls’ 4x100, as well as the boys’ 4x400. Bigfork placed second in both events.
Polson’s girls got their revenge in the longer relay, winning the 4x400, while Columbia Falls came in second. That consistency across events shows how tightly contested the northwest Montana team scene is heading into the final weeks before divisionals.
In other field event highlights, Whitefish’s Sol Holmquist threw a personal-best 111-3 for second in the javelin.
