Whitefish struggles to contain Columbia Falls in home loss
A tough afternoon on the diamond saw the Whitefish softball team fall 18-1 to Columbia Falls at Smith Fields Tuesday in a shortened three-inning matchup.
Whitefish surrendered nine runs in the opening frame and couldn’t recover as the visiting Wildkats added five more in the second and four in the third. Columbia Falls tallied 12 hits while drawing 12 walks and capitalizing on early scoring opportunities.
Lucia Pittman started in the circle for Whitefish, pitching two innings and allowing 11 hits and 17 earned runs while walking 10. Brooke Bernat came on in relief, giving up one hit and one earned run with two walks over one inning.
Offensively, Whitefish managed just one hit — a single by Elyse Sharpnack — and scored its lone run in the third inning. Izzy Jarvis drove in the run for the Bulldogs.
