Whitefish School District election and levy Information

| April 9, 2025 1:00 AM

The Whitefish School District would like to inform the community about the changes to the school election scheduled for May 6 and provide information regarding the upcoming levy.

To consolidate the school election process and reduce costs, the Flathead County Election Department will conduct mail elections for nearly all school districts this spring. The County will handle duties previously performed by school districts, such as ordering election supplies, printing and stamping ballots, stuffing and mailing envelopes, receiving ballots, replacing missing or damaged ballots, verifying voter signatures and counting ballots. As in previous years, the county will manage all voter registration.

The Whitefish School District will serve only as a drop-off location for voters who prefer to deliver their ballot in person. The district will be responsible for transporting the drop box to the County Election Department at least twice weekly. The drop-off location will remain at the District Office, 600 E 2nd St in Whitefish.

As the Whitefish School District continues to face rising costs for goods and services, a proposal for a general fund operating levy will be presented to the voters on May 6, 2025. The proposed high school levy of up to $100,000 would result in a tax increase of $0.86 per year for every $100,000 of a home's assessed value.

If approved, the additional funding will help offset the rising cost of consumables, repairs and maintenance, utilities, equipment rental, audit services, curriculum, professional development, compensation, and other expenses.

Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters on April 18.
