Whitefish's cross-country team was led by some standout performances as it battled schools from Idaho and Montana at the Thompson Falls Invite on Saturday, Sept. 21.

“The majority of the team had season-best times, so the team effort was fantastic,” Whitefish Head Coach Richard Menicke said. “In particular, the girls varsity ran in a tight pack in getting their best times, led by Sophie Douglas and Grace Inabnit with top 25 finishes.”

Simon Douglas led the boys with a third-place finish (16:44.26), as the senior had his lifetime best mark. Ethan Amick was 24th (18:08.39), while Logan Hyland was 42nd (18:52.35). Freshman Luca Ginous ran a 19:51.18 to post the best JV time of the meet.

“Junior Logan Highland and freshman Luca Gignoux ran massive bests,” Menicke said.

On the girl's side, Whitefish was bunched up, with sophomore Sophie Douglas placing 22nd (22:18.55) and Grace Inabnit placing 25th (22:30.34). Not far behind was Sierra Gibb at 27th (22:32.76). Junior Maren Cromie was 34th (22:43.81). Kellie Klepper placed 44th with a time of 23:40.68.

The Whitefish girls placed fifth as a team.

“A good week of training led to these results, and it was fun to see the kids' confidence in their ability growing,” Menicke said.
