Summer Games soccer tourney persists

| September 11, 2024 1:00 AM

Upholding a tradition that began in 1982-83, eleven soccer teams headed to Smith Fields to compete in the Whitefish Summer Games soccer tournament last weekend.

The over-39 men’s division hosted five teams and The White House Grill from Spokane took top honors this year while Flathead Valley finished in second place. Six women’s teams played and Missoula, outfitted in denim cutoffs and tank tops, won the women’s open division with the local team, The Fish, in second. The two teams posed for a photo after the final game.

Competition was fierce, but friendship and comraderie were the stars of the weekend, with teams coming from as far as Edmonton, Alberta, to take part in the fun.
