My Glacier Village hosts Coffee and Conversations for Seniors in Whitefish May 8
Volunteers Needed to Support Seniors
My Glacier Village is hosting a Coffee and Conversations event on Wednesday, May 8, 9:30 - 11 a.m. at Wild Coffee Company, located at 309 Central Avenue in downtown Whitefish. Anyone interested is invited to stop by for a cup of coffee, join the conversation and meet Village members and volunteers.
The topic of conversation will be solo aging. According to AARP, more than 12% of the population 50 years and older in the United States live alone, are not married or partnered in a long-term relationship, and have no living children. In addition, it’s challenging when adult children do not live in close vicinity, and if they do, it may be hard for parents to ask for help.
My Glacier Village is not a place, it’s a concept. It is a chapter of a national nonprofit membership-based organization that provides connections, education and support that seniors in our community need to age confidently in their own homes and on their own terms. It’s a program of seniors serving seniors through the power of community.
Regular activities and events such as Coffee and Conversations are hosted by the Village to help members make new friends, stay connected and navigate senior living. Many support services are available for members to meet their practical day-to-day needs such as picking up groceries, providing rides to appointments and small home and yard projects.
My Glacier Village has a robust volunteer program with current volunteer recruitment active in the Whitefish area. Volunteers of all ages can contribute as their schedule allows.
"My Glacier Village is helping seniors live their best life at any age, and sometimes it starts over a cup of coffee," says Village volunteer Denise Germann.
