Holmes Player Haselden, Jr., 82

Holmes Player "Hap" Haselden, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2023. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on Feb. 28, 1941, to Terrence O'Neill and Holmes Player Haselden.

His early days were spent in Charleston and, in summer, at the family beach home on Sullivan’s Island. He graduated from Charleston High School and continued his education at Wingate University and the University of South Carolina after which he began his career in the insurance industry which culminated in his presidency of Investors National Life Insurance Company in Columbia, South Carolina.

Prior to moving to Columbia, he married Mary Ann Nunn, and they had two children. After this marriage ended, he met Helen Hindersman, the love of his life, and they spent the next 33 years together as soul mates and life companions. Together they formed Player Financial, Inc., an insurance agency, and Palmetto Payroll Solutions, a payroll outsourcing company.

They enjoyed scuba diving, travel, fishing, running, and hiking. It was after a hiking trip in Glacier National Park that they decided to move to Whitefish, Montana, where they have resided the last 25 years.

Having retired upon this move, he stayed busy hiking, golfing, skiing, reading, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Kenzie and Kodi, and, currently, Annie and Dixie. Enjoying being with friends, he became known as the, "social director," among those closest to him. He was a volunteer with the Special Olympics and at North Valley Hospital (now Logan Health) where he was the Thursday "cookie man." He also served on the board of directors of North Valley Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by Helen Hindersman, soul mate; sons, Holmes P. (Trace) Haselden, III (Leighann) and Harold (Hal) Byers Haselden; and sisters, Katherine Haselden Chandler (Jim) and Hope Haselden Parker (Telfair).
