Whitefish’s McDaniel, Sibson lead swim team in Missoula
The Bulldog swim teams competed in a large meet in Missoula on Saturday that combined several Class AA, A and B schools.
Though Class AA schools dominated the top placings in the team scores, Whitefish had some shining moments in the competition.
Bulldog senior Jack McDaniel came away with a win in the boys 100 yard breaststroke, swimming it in a time of 1:05.71. He also had a fourth-place finish in the boys 500 yard freestyle.
Teammate Gavin Sibson, a Whitefish junior, took an impressive first place in the boys 500 yard freestyle event — finishing with a time of 5:23.93, just under 10 seconds faster than the second-place finish, Ed McNeil of Glacier. Sibson also placed third in the boys 50 yard freestyle (24.73), finishing behind Sean Murphree of Hellgate and Connor Mizner of Sentinel, and tying Troy Kendall of Belgrade.
The Whitefish boys also placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
On the girls side, Whitefish was most successful in the team relay events. The Bulldogs took fourth place in the girls 400 yard freestyle relay and fifth in the 200 yard medley relay.
The Whitefish girls as a team finished in sixth place with 134 total points; Glacier High dominated for first with 436 points. The Bulldog boys team finished seventh in the team scores with 134 points, as Glacier High handily won the meet with 436 points.
