Tee to Green: Whitefish Lake Golf Club building remodel begins

| September 28, 2022 1:00 AM

Remodel underway

The long-planned remodel and repurpose of the Whitefish Lake Golf Club’s club house got underway this week with Martel Construction’s crew beginning the demolition of the existing bag room area. Drawings of the building plans are on display in the lounge area of the bar/restaurant for those interested in viewing them. The timeline to complete the renovation is set for late May or early June of 2023, but the course will be open next spring as usual. The completed building will house relocated restrooms, a club repair room and two golf simulators on the lower floor with the second level housing offices and a conference room. The golf club is fortunate to have Dow Powell serving as our owner representative during the construction process.

Annual Meeting

The annual business meeting of the Whitefish Lake Golf Association will be held on Oct. 15 starting at 9:30 a.m. with a hosted brunch being served by the restaurant staff. The meeting will feature reports from the various committees including a financial report showing data up to the end of September 2022. The membership report will illustrate the number of WLGA members and the various tiers. All Tier-One members are urged to attend and we also ask that you call the restaurant at 862-5285 to indicate if you plan to attend. This will help our staff prepare the brunch for all attendees.

Absentee ballots

Absentee ballots for the election of two new board members will be available in the Golf Shop starting on Oct. 1. Only tier one members are allowed to vote in the election. According to the bylaws of WLGC at least one of the board members elected this term must be female. Currently, we have four candidates filing for the board including; Monte Gilman, Bill LeLievre, David Scott and Tracy Whisenand.

Hit down to make it go up

In most sports, you hit under the ball to make it go up in the air. In golf, the reverse is true. On Iron shots, you should hit the ball and then strike the turf with a descending blow. If you work on this move you will hit our irons higher and straighter. This will also impart more backspin which not only lifts the ball but helps it stop sooner.

Job openings

Job openings are posted on our golfwhitefish.com website under the heading of contact us. Currently, the board is looking for applicants for the General Manager/Secretary position for WLGC.
