Archie Roe Invite showcases Whitefish athlete talent, Bulldogs sweep CFalls dual

The Whitefish track and field team had a strong showing between bouts of rain and wind at the large 43rd Archie Roe Invitational in Kalispell on Saturday.

Bulldog senior Talon Holmquist cranked out another PR in the shot put (53-8) which was 3 feet further than second-place Hellgate’s Tommy Nilson. He also placed fifth in the discus event. Whitefish senior Bodie Smith won the 300 hurdles in his best time of 41.31 and placed third in the 110 meter hurdles.

Whitefish sophomore Deneb Linton dominated the 3200 meter race, running it in 10:04.03, to also take first; teammate Jacob Henson was just behind him for third place in the 3200.

Another Bulldog senior Gabe Menicke continued to dominate the triple jump, with a 45-½ foot leap.

As a team the boys took third with 76 points.

For the girls, Whitefish sophomore Hailey Ells ran her best time in the 200 meter (26.65) to win the sprint and also took first in the 300 hurdles. Another Bulldog sophomore and leading sprinter Brooke Zetooney raced to a first-place finish in the 100 (13.14) and also anchored Whitefish’s winning 4X100 relay that ran to a Class A-best of 49.92.

In the girls 400, Whitefish freshman Rachael Wilmot ran to second place with a time of 62.54, just edging Columbia Falls’ Ally Sempf. Senior Erin Wilde also continued her top performance in jumps with a second-place triple jump of 35-4 ½.

As a team the girls placed fifth with 63 points.

Whitefish earlier in the week, Tuesday, May 3, competed in Columbia Falls for a dual as well. Whitefish swept the dual with the boys winning 84-63 and the girls 72-69. The individual results are below.

The Bulldogs are nearing the end of the season now with one week left before divisionals. This week Whitefish hosts a triangular meet with Flathead and Browning on Thursday before traveling to the Polson ABC on Saturday. Thursday’s meet begins at 3 p.m. and things will kick off in Polson at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
