The Whitefish High School speech and debate team took third place in the sweepstakes at the Columbia Falls Invitational on Saturday.

As the home team, the Wildcats took first and Stevensville was second in sweepstakes points.

Whitefish senior Emma Trieweiler returned to competing this week and placed second in extemporaneous speaking. In the public forum debate, the Bulldog team of May Rowles and Jayce McDonald also took second.

The Whitefish team of Gavin Carmichael and Alex Losee placed sixth in policy debate while Charlotte Perkins was also sixth in the Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Whitefish speech and debate coach Sara Mueller liked the dedication her team showed this week.

“Although we were a smaller group, we are a dedicated group of participants,” she said. “I am proud of how they reach out to each other and work together. I am looking forward to getting most students regularly competing in December.”

Next, the team will travel to Bozeman to compete in a two-day tournament on Dec. 3-4.
