FVSF skiers make the podium at Discovery

Flathead Valley Ski Foundation team members traveled to Discovery Ski Area for four days of racing last week.

The events were staged on a good snow surface in spite of warm temperatures and thinning snowpack. The Discovery races were part of a season-long schedule of events run within the Northern Division of the US Ski & Snowboard Association. The Northern Division includes all of Montana and parts of Wyoming and South Dakota.

Boys and girls ranging in age from 12 to 15 were competing in the U14-U16 “Disco Shootout” to qualify for their respective Divisional and Regional Championships later this month. The Flathead Valley/Whitefish Mountain Resort race team earned nine total podium spots including Shaye Ewing with a first place and second place, Christian Lund with a second and third place, Melody McNally and Jackson Surber and each with one second place and Valerie Cross, Lane Murray and Clayton Surber each with one third place.

Championship racing starts next weekend when the Northern Division Youth Ski League Championships for U12, U10 and U8 competitors will be hosted at Bridger Bowl Ski Resort near Bozeman. The following weekend the Northern Division U14 Championships will be contested at Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort.

The Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation is a nonprofit community-based organization that promotes athletic, academic and personal excellence for Flathead Valley youth through participation on the FVSEF Ski Team.
