Keeping up with greens maintenance not an easy task

| June 16, 2021 1:00 AM

Thanks Green Crew

With over 2 inches of rain and now the hot dry weather all of us have been trying to keep up with our lawns. Imagine having to keep up with nearly 50 acres of highly manicured turf. That’s what our green crew does daily even in the rain they have to keep up before the grass gets unmanageable. Think about the various heights of mowing that needs to be accomplished each day with greens, tees, fairways and rough all requiring a different type of mower. Thanks green crew for keeping our golf course in such fabulous shape every day of the season.

Cart Paths save the turf

Using the cart path and following the 90 degree rule at all times that carts are allowed on the grass protects the turf from excessive wear. Please pay attention to where you enter or leave the fairways and avoid areas that may be showing wear patterns, such as next to bunkers or trees. Also please keep all four wheels on the path when you park your cart by the green or tees.

Golf Lessons

Our members and guests are fortunate to have such a high quality teaching staff at WLGC. All three teaching Professionals fully understand the swing and can assist all skill sets of players to improve their games. Lessons may be scheduled by calling the Golf Shop (862-5960) and either talking to the Pro’s or leaving a message and they will call you back to schedule an appointment.

Don’t follow a bad shot by a dumb one

I have to remind myself of this fact at some point in nearly every round. You hit an errant tee shot and then think if I could just hit the ball under that tree with a big cut I can still get on the green. RIGHT! It is nearly always best to take your medicine and get the ball back in play so you have a fair chance to still make par or bogey at the worst. You can recover from an occasional bogey but doubles cause by hitting a dumb shot tend to ruin your round.
