Jean Driggers, 72, passed away in Gig Harbor, Washington, on Feb. 28, 2021, with her husband Bob by her side and surrounded by the love of her family.

Jean was born on March 15, 1948 to Keith and Catherine Atkinson in Middletown, Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Maine and spent a semester during college studying in Dublin, Ireland. Jean moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1975 where she met and married Bob Driggers. They moved to Whitefish in 1988 and relocated to Gig Harbor, Washington, in the summer of 2019.

One of Jean’s greatest talents was making every person in her life feel special. She incorporated this talent on a daily basis as an irreplaceable partner, mother, friend and teacher. Jean worked with children in many different capacities and spent more than 25 years teaching in the Olney-Bissell School District. Her great joy in life was teaching and working with children.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Bob; children and their spouses: Kelly and Craig Dyer of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Nathan and Kathryn Driggers of Bethesda, Maryland; grandchildren: Dylan, Megan, Tyler, Parker and Ellie; and siblings and their spouses: Richard and Carol Atkinson of Whitefish, Robert and Brenda Atkinson of Boise, Idaho, and Mary Atkinson of Sudbury, Massachusets.

A small memorial service was held this summer in Ocean Shores, Washington.

The family has formed the Jean Atkinson Driggers Scholarship to benefit students from the Olney-Bissell School District seeking secondary education. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made in memory of Jean to the scholarship: Jean Atkinson Driggers, Scholarship Program, Whitefish Community Foundation, P.O.
