Bulldog swimmers post solid times in Kalispell

The Whitefish High School swim team took a solid second place at the Kalispell Invitational swim meet at The Summit on Saturday.

In the combined scores, the Bulldogs had 400 points which was second to 726 points. The boys team had 205 points while the girls scored 195 as a team. Behind Whitefish was Columbia Falls in third place with 302 combined points.

For the Whitefish girls, seniors Ada Qunell and Nia Hanson both came away with first-place races. Qunell won the 100 yard backstroke by over 4 seconds as well as the 100 yard freestyle, well ahead of Glacier’s Olivia Gibbons. Qunell's 100 yard freestyle time of 53.62 broke her own school record by nearly 2 tenths of a second and she extended her unbeaten streak that started in her freshman year.

Hanson took first in the 100 butterfly, just edging Isabella Lane out of Glacier High School.

The Whitefish girls came in second in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:56.14. In the 500 free, Bulldog Sydney Mcintyre swam to a second-place finish in 6:15.94; Hanson took third in the event. Macintyre also took third in the 200 IM.

On the boys team, senior Aaron Dicks secured first place in the 100 yard breaststroke race, swimming it in 1:12.38.

Fellow senior Logan Botner was second in the 200 free as well as third in the 500 free. Bulldog Jack McDaniel swam to second place in the 100 yard backstroke event with the time of 1:05.09, and also second in the 50 yard freestyle race. Whitefish freshman Noah Schroeder was third in the 100 butterfly while Lincoln Schroeder finished second in the 200 IM.

The Whitefish boys 400 yard freestyle relay team and 200 yard medley relay team came in second, both to Glacier High.

The swim teams will compete again on Saturday at the Great Falls Relays, time to be determined.
