Whitefish Community Foundation announces fall community grant awards

The Whitefish Community Foundation Community Grant Program has awarded $32,258 to nonprofit organizations during its fall grant cycle.

The foundation’s program in total has awarded more than $1.65 million since the program began in 2000.

Grants were awarded to the following nonprofits: Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead for Flathead River trailhead improvements, $4,000; Bigfork Rotary Foundation for Bigfork School District backpack program, $4,000; Code Girls United for online coding program, $4,000; Flathead County Sheriff’s Posse for purchase of body armor, $4,000; Flathead Warming Center for support of low-barrier homeless shelter, $4,000; Foy’s to Blacktail Trails for reconstruction of Herron Park trail drainage, $4,000; Kalispell Education Foundation for support of teacher-driven classroom projects, $2,000; Montana Wild Wings Recovery Center to purchase food for 22 education raptors, $2,000; Northwest Montana Historical Society for preservation of the Ed Gilliland photo collection, $2,258; and Riding on Insulin to subsidize camp for children with Type I diabetes, $2,000.

The foundation will accept 2021 community grant applications from Jan. 25-Feb. 25, 2021, and in the fall from Aug. 30-Sept. 30, 2021.

All Flathead Valley nonprofits that are not returning applicants to the 2021 Great Fish Community Challenge, as well as organizations raising funds for a specific charitable project are eligible to apply once annually for a maximum grant of $4,000. Call 406-863-1781 for eligibility questions.

The COVID-19 Community Emergency Response Fund has provided over $253,000 in funding, and continues to provide flexible support for nonprofit programs directly serving individuals impacted by the pandemic, as well as nonprofits facing unforeseen financial challenges threatening their ability to operate.
