| November 4, 2020 1:00 AM

Whitefish Mountain Resort earned the third best resort in the West from the annual SKI magazine readers poll for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

The magazine’s Resort Guide is the longest running and most comprehensive ski resort survey in the industry. Readers are asked to rank ski resorts in various categories.

The resort also earned No. 1 in Local Flavor and No. 2 in Value.

Resort officials note that placing second in value, means the resort is affordable while maintaining the long tradition of showing guests a good time, and placing first in local flavor speaks to what the town of Whitefish has to offer.

“On behalf of our wonderful staff and ownership, I thank all of our guests for ranking us among the top resorts in the west in Ski Magazine’s 2021 Resort Guide. We strive every day to provide the personal touch and a quality experience at an affordable price,” Whitefish Mountain Resort CEO Dan Graves said. “This ranking illustrates the resort’s commitment to a high level of hospitality and the Whitefish community’s warm and welcoming qualities that set us apart. We look forward to another great year of sharing more improvements to our returning and first-time guests.”

Taking the top spot on the overall list is Sun Valley, Idaho, followed by Deer Valley, Utah. The only other Montana resort for the top-ranked ski resorts in the West is Big Sky Resort at No. 22.

This is the second year in a row Whitefish Mountain Resort has taken the No. 3 spot and it’s the fourth time it has made an appearance in the Top 10.

In this year’s listing, SKI magazine notes that the resort has earned high marks for service, overall satisfaction and value — the “holy trinity for a resort.”

“Attaining success is every resort’s goal,” the magazine says. “Not letting that success change you is a whole new ball game. Whitefish is handling both with grace these days.”

The resort’s other rankings, include No. 7 Family Friendly, Down Day Activities; No. 8 Nightlife; No. 9 Grooming; No 10 Dining; No. 11 On-Mountain Food, Lodging; No. 13 Accessibility; No. 15 Travel Ease; No. 20 Terrain; No. 22 Snow; No. 28 Challenge; and No. 29 Lifts.

The resort is scheduled to open for the ski season on Dec. 10.
