Gov. Brian Schweitzer and British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell signed an agreement to ban mining and coal and gas development in the North Fork area and the Flathead River drainage north of Glacier National Park. The two signed the agreement in Vancouver.

Feb. 24, 2000

The Pilot was going digital. Starting March 1, the paper announced, the Whitefish Pilot would be available online every day. Every day the paper planned to release a “web cast” with a fresh story and a photo not available in the print edition.

Feb. 22, 1990

Bigfork developer Dan Averill was looking into plans for the Viking Lodge property, located on Wisconsin Avenue near the lake. Thus far, Averill owned Marina Cay Resort and the Sunset Point condominium development in Bigfork.

Feb. 21, 1980

Whitefish was taking part in a growing nationwide trend of cleaner eating. Mother Earth’s Natural Foods store had just opened on Second Street, which focused on organic products for healthier meals.

50 years ago

Feb. 26, 1970

The Bulldogs were preparing for a trip to the state tournament after heading into the Western A District Tournament with a 12-2 record. A bus for the trip would be sponsored by the Bulldog Sportsman club of Whitefish.
