Adventure Crew group seeks members, leaders

| March 4, 2020 1:00 AM

A newly formed group in Whitefish is seeking youth interested in outdoor challenges, leadership opportunities, and service to their community.

Toby Scott, Crew 2920 Advisor, is organizing the group that he says is an often-overlooked division of Boy Scouts of America. Venturing is an inclusive program for males and females aged 14 to 20. It’s operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events for youth.

Scott has for many years been involved with local Boy Scout troops, but is looking for those interested in Venturing to form the new group.

The unit is guided by a Crew Advisor, but direction and planning is by the youth members of the Crew.

Registration in Scouting is required and if over 18, completion of the Youth Protection Training. All Venturing activities are supervised under the rules of Scouts BSA to insure safety and proper conduct.

Venture Crews have done outdoor activities such as climbing Mt. Rainier, Granite Peak, week long hikes into the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and rafting/canoe trips down the Missouri river. Community service varies according to the needs volunteered by the Crew.

Participation in the Crew offers opportunities to get outdoors with a group of their peers with expert guidance on extreme adventures.

The new Venture Crew 2920 is accepting applications for youth and adult leaders to be a part of this group. If this is of interest, for more information and a registration application, contact Toby Scott, Crew 2920 Advisor, tobyscott2@gmail.com
