Couple grateful for those who assisted with flat tire

| July 17, 2019 12:30 PM

We are 80 year-old Canadians who have been coming to Whitefish for over 40 years. Recently we were driving down from Kimberley and stopped for dinner at Point of Rocks Restaurant about 25 miles west of Whitefish. After a dinner of fabulous Prime Rib we came out to find we had flat tire. While we were figuring out what to do (I haven’t changed a tire in 20 years) the chef appeared with an air pump and proceeded blow the tire back up. It appeared we had a slow leak and we thought we could make it into our son’s place in Whitefish.

The chef’s wife came out and insisted she follow us into Whitefish to make sure we didn’t have more trouble on the narrow two-lane highway in the dark. Sure enough 10 miles down the road the tire was almost flat again and we pulled off the highway. The chef’s wife moved her car into a position to give us light and I started the task of changing the tire (took me 15 minutes just to find the jack!) As we were struggling to get the tire out of the trunk a vehicle passed us going in the opposite direction, then turned around and came back. A younger couple hopped out, offered their help, and he changed the tire for us in rapid fashion. We got on our way and were safely at our son’s place a half hour later.

It turns out the chef and his wife are the owners of Point of Rocks and the younger couple live in the area.

These people are a perfect example of the wonderful people we have encountered over 40 years of visiting Montana. No wonder Montanans have the reputation of always being willing to stop and help people in trouble. God bless them all.
