School building inadequate for future challenges
The time has come for my fellow Whitefishians in School District 44 to mark their X in the yay or nay box on the ballot for the Muldown Elementary bond to build a new school. Please don’t take this exercise lightly. The $26.5 million price tag can certainly get one’s attention, but I would encourage everyone to dig deeper and get “the rest of the story” in order to make an informed decision.
Building new school makes most financial sense for longterm
This spring the Whitefish School District board of trustees voted unanimously to ask the school district residents to vote on a bond initiative to build a new Muldown Elementary School. The mail-in ballots have arrived in mailboxes and I want to share a few thoughts about why the trustees felt so strongly about this issue.
Don't let Whitefish get behind when it comes to education
As a matter of principle, I am a strong proponent of voting for bonds related to education and school facilities. There is great power in public education and I want our students and teachers to have the best tools for learning, while also spending taxpayer money wisely.
Current elementary building safety concern
Anyone who attended the pubic meeting at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center last week went away from there with many thoughts. One that was foremost in my mind was the absolute passion our community has for the safety of our kids.

North Course practice green sees extensive reconstruction
The practice green on the North Course is being reconstructed for several reasons, but mainly to double the size the of the putting surface, improve the drainage underground and replace the grass with a Bentgrass cultivar that is healthier and more consistent with what is on the golf course. The old green is over 30 years old and the size worked fine for the traffic back then but with increased use the wear patterns begin to emerge. We also anticipate that the newly remodeled green space will add an improved visual appeal to the entry to the course.

Constructing new school cost-effective solution for future
I am writing in support of the Muldown Elementary School bond. My children were “Mully’s” and though the school was already 20 years old when they started, it was still considered a relatively new and innovative school.
Time now to invest in children, town
Full disclosure: No one asked me to write this letter. I was a member of the Muldown Project Task Force and a confirmed skeptic as to the need for a new school.
