We both enthusiastically endorse Bill Hileman for Whitefish Municipal Court Judge.

Regier says net neutrality an important issue
All the attention around the Federal Communications Commission’s net neutrality regulations brings hope that Congress will intervene to come up with some sort of compromise. Net neutrality is the principle that Americans can engage in any lawful activity online knowing that their Internet traffic will not be slowed, blocked or interfered with in any way. It’s a principle everyone supports but has been stuck in multiple rounds of litigation and policy changes at the FCC. This type of back and forth appears inevitable without legislative action from Congress.

Unknown general showed character
While our nation grapples with the dismantling of statues to the confederacy, I frequently hear the argument that such destroys and distorts “our” history. If that was truly the case, one has to ask why there isn’t a single statue to one of the bravest and smartest commanders who served under Robert E. Lee?

Phil Mitchell needs to be removed from office. Destruction of trees in county park inexcusable

Legislator condemns white supremacist actions
As an elected official an emissary of Whitefish within the state, I unequivocally condemn the thoughts and actions of white supremacists in Charlottesville. Specifically and germane to this house district, I condemn Whitefish resident Richard Spencer and those who side with his obnoxious and demented thoughts. The 14th amendment of our federal constitution was adopted in 1868 to provide the equal protection and rights of former slaves. The amendment also addresses due process which prevents citizens of being deprived of life, liberty or property. The proverbial train has left the station. Case closed! White supremacists, those with nostalgic thoughts of apartheid in South Africa, revisionist interpretations of Nazism or separate and unequal schools in a segregated America of the past, ultimately will find isolation and rejection.

There is nothing better than soaking up the Montana summer on our public lands. New generations of Montanans and old can enjoy our pristine waters, mountains and wildlife. One popular spot in our state, the Upper Missouri Breaks, has been in the news lately as Secretary of the Interior and former Montana congressman Ryan Zinke was considering revoking its national monument status. Thankfully he released a statement that he is not going to make any changes to The Breaks, but other national monuments are still at risk.

Nordic Club thanks Winter Sports for new trail easement
On behalf of Glacier Nordic Club and its membership, a huge thank you to Winter Sports Inc. for their generosity in granting a new recreational easement on Big Mountain for a trailhead and connector trail. This easement will provide much needed winter access to the existing Nordic trail network in Haskill Basin. Five years ago, Glacier Nordic Club began grooming the old trail network on WSI and Stoltze land. The new access trail will provide the public with easier access to these trails as well as the trails groomed by Iron Horse. With warming temperatures, this area provides more reliable snow coverage than available at the Glacier Nordic Center at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course. The new trailhead will be easy to find (right off Big Mountain Road), with dedicated parking and restroom facilities. A new access trail will provide less elevation change than the current access from the Base Lodge, making it accessible to more skiers. Glacier Nordic is excited to partner with Whitefish Legacy Partners on the new trailhead and access trail, sharing 50-50 in the approximate $100,000 cost. We will be grooming the new trail and contributing to winter trailhead maintenance as well. Thanks again, Winter Sports for granting this easement to improve access to the growing Nordic ski resources in Whitefish.
