Once again it was my privilege to participate in the annual Bigfork Elves D-Day Operation. I was particularly pleased to note the great number of first time participants. I think it's this kind of volunteer activity that continues to speak to the unique character of our village.

Only days after celebrating her 80th birthday surrounded bye family members, Lucille Evans passed away peacefully at a local hospital on Oct. 25, 2004 to be with her Lord.

Thanksgiving Day is as American as apple pie. Its origin commemorated the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony in 1621 after seasons of great starvation. One look at Thanksgiving dinners served today is proof that crops are bountiful.

Of snakes and men
Sure! Now with all the rattlesnakes snuggled in their underground dens for the winter, I find a couple of stories about eem. Actually, rattlers don't snuggle so much as they slither into a great big ball. Some dens may hold only a couple dozen while others may have hundreds. It was one of those really big dens that my father blasted during the winter of 1934-35 on Marco Hill. He was working in a crew rebuilding the road between Camas Prairie and Hot Springs.

We admit that we're a bit prejudiced when it comes to cats, but recent events in the Kalispell area should touch the hearts and minds of all residents. A young Evergreen man has admitted to local media and law enforcement that he adopts kittens through "free" ads in local papers and uses the kittens to train his dogs for cougar hunting.

The history of Martin City is interwoven with Mrs. Clara Verrall, who served as its postmaster for 26 years. Her career began May 16, 1947, when the post office was only two months old. Clara succeeded Mrs. Grace Zurn, who served the first two months.
