The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions in October for two theatre productions.
On Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m., auditions will be held for a Black Curtain production of “Trying.” On Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m., auditions will be held for a mainstage show of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” All auditions take place at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Please enter on the north side of the building near the Green Room and arrive early to fill out an audition application and review the script.
“Trying”, by Joanna McClelland Glass, is inspired by her own-life experience as personal secretary to the brilliant and irascible Judge Francis Biddle, U.S. Attorney General during World War II and Chief Justice for the Nuremberg Trials. Biddle, at age 81, is rigid and painfully aware of his failing health and fears he may not be able to complete his autobiography in time to tell his side of history. Enter Sara Schorr, an inexperienced but fearless 25-year old writer hired to help put Biddle’s affairs in order. “Trying” illustrates how two unlikely partners, at dramatically different places in their lives, can forever save one another by discovering each other’s fears, regrets, hopes and joys.
Nick Spear is the director of “Trying.” The cast will be composed of one man, age 60 and over, and one woman, age 20s-30s. As a Black Curtain show, actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. Total time commitment for this production is two to three weeks. There will be two performances over one weekend on Nov. 10 and 11.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” follows the six Herdman kids — considered the terror of teachers, parents, and students alike — as they manage to snatch the major roles in the holiday show. Will it be a silent night? Will the pageant be the “worst Christmas pageant ever” as everyone is expecting? Or will the spirit of the season allow the community to see the Christmas story — and the Herdman kids — through new eyes? In this hilarious and heartfelt Christmas classic, you won’t believe the mayhem — and the fun — when the Herdmans bring a little joyful noise to the holidays.
Valeri McGarvey is the director of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” The cast needs men, women, and young actors of all ages (6 years old to adult). Families are welcome to audition together. Total time commitment for this production is six weeks with rehearsals starting the week of Oct. 29. There are nine performances over two weekends on Dec. 6-9 and 14-16.
No experience or preparation is necessary to audition for any show. Pages from the script will be provided.
