Whitefish harriers fare well at home invite

The Bulldogs defended its home turf with solid performances at the Whitefish Invite.

The girls took first overall and the boys third at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

The pack of Jessica Henson, Ella and Jade Greenberg, Josephine Vardell and Alie Simpson grabbed five of the top 10 spots.

Henson led the way with at third place (20:27.9), with Ella Greenberg finishing just behind at fourth (20:34.4).

Jade Greenberg took sixth (21:07.2), Vardell took eighth (21:34.8) and Simpson 10th (21:35.9).

Miles Vrentas was the top boys finisher for the Dogs, taking eighth (17:38.2) just ahead of ninth-place Bridger Gaertner (17.41.7).

Colter Gaertner took 17th (18:22.9) and Jacob Bailey 18th (18:25.3).

Over the weekend Whitefish traveled south to Missoula to compete in the Mountain West Classic, racing against teams from across Montana and the Pacific Northwest.

The girls took 17th overall in the highly competitive race.

“This race is like a state championship preview,” head coach Richard Menicke said. “Most Class A teams were there and it gives the kids a good sense of where we stand.”

The team heads to Eureka on Thursday and Browning on Saturday.
