The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents its first Black Curtain Theatre production of the 2018-2019 season with “Every Brilliant Thing” at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

This “funny, clever, and surprisingly uplifting” play has performances on Sept. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Ice cream, water fights, things with stripes, staying up past your bedtime to watch TV, roller coasters — these are just a few items on a list of things worth living for compiled by a young girl trying to ease her mother’s depression at the start of Duncan Macmillian’s charming and miraculous new play “Every Brilliant Thing.” Through adulthood, she learns the deep significance that the ever-expanding list has on her own life, as she goes to college, falls in love and builds a home.

Called “heart-wrenching and hilarious” by The Guardian, “Every Brilliant Thing” is a moving and compassionate tribute to the irrepressible resilience inside us all and a reminder to find delight in the every day. The play is also a testament to the power of storytelling as it engages members of the audience to help tell its story in this immersive experience.

Directed by Nancy Nei, “Every Brilliant Thing” is a one-person show starring Scarlett Schindler as the Narrator.

This show is a reunion of sorts as Nei directed and Schindler starred in WTC’s productions of “Always…Patsy Cline”. “I am delighted to work with Scarlett again in this superb play,” says Nei. “Similar to Patsy that has one main actor telling the story, I can think of no one to engage and move an audience better than Scarlett.”

Nei adds, “This play is sure to touch everyone in some way. For those that have had difficult times in their lives, ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ acts as a reminder that we can find hope and joy by remembering the little important things in life. I have read reviews that this show has a way of letting the audience bond with each other in a way that does not often happen with other plays.”

Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will minimal staging, no set or props, and the actor will be reading from a script.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students with general seating. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office at 1 Central Avenue in Whitefish or by calling 862-5371. Box Office Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before a performance. Individual tickets can also be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org.
