Whitefish Pilot

Whitefish natives Adam Pitman, Adam Stilwell and Ed Wrzesien packed up and moved to Los Angeles three years ago to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. After a few small parts in commercials, the team decided to take on the arduous task of making their own movie.

Filmed on a small DV-Cam, Roulette cost about $500 and one-year of time to produce, but Pitman says the results are consistent with a bigger-budget film. The small camera actually helped the crew get these results because they could film in areas where "professional" cameras weren't allowed.

"It's been a lot of hard work," Pitman told the Pilot. "And we wanted to have the unveiling at our roots in Montana."

Roulette will have its world premiere on Halloween night, Oct. 31, at the O'Shaughnessy Center from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a cost of $6 at the door.

The motion picture is a psychological thriller about five characters who engage in a fatal game of Russian roulette. The characters are: Pete, a dark cynic interested in the metaphysical; Paul, an awkward and nerdy teenager with an infatuation with planes and trying to fit in; Amy, distraught after discovering her boy friend has left her; Troy, a womanizing Hollywood cliche; and Scott, an effeminate determined to prove his machismo.

After the inevitable death of one of the players, panic leads to terror as they devise a plan to cover up the death as a suicide, lest they implicate themselves in murder or be suspected as accessories to the act. Exactly one year later, the guilt-ridden survivors find themselves stalked by their dead friend's vengeful spirit.

Pitman directed the film with David Blair. The movie stars Stilwell, Angela Melhone, Peter Riggs, Pitman, David Blair and Jasmine John. The original score was composed by Wrzesien and was re-recorded by Toby Scott, who has worked with artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Natalie Merchant.

The soundtrack from the film features original music from Flathead Valley artist Jibran and Missoula artist Ed Resin.

Roulette was accepted as one of four feature films shown at the Fargo Fantasy Film Festival last Friday.

Roulette was filmed with the help of Whitefish residents Richard and Carol Atkinson. Pitman says the ultimate goal of making this movie was to find producers and investors willing to fund more projects.

Roulette has been rated R for violence, language and mature subject matter.
